Lent 2009 at Thomas Risley Church

Lent is an important time for Christians and this year especially we are planning a major initiative at Thomas Risley. We are utilising the "Love Life, Live Lent" project (http://www.livelent.net) and we have ordered the books which guide us through various actions and thoughts. The books will be available at church and we hope that everyone will take one and use it. The books cost a pound so please make a donation through the offertory.

This year Lent begins on Wednesday, 25th February on Ash Wednesday and goes through to Easter with Easter Sunday being on the 12th of April. During that six weeks we are inviting everyone to join a Lent group. Most of these groups will be exploring the Biblical theme of "Grace" through stories such as the prodigal son and Gideon.

Details of the groups will be at Church or you can Contact Us for details, but in brief, we expect to have the following groups:-

Monday Evening - Music Workshop
Tuesday Evening - Choice of 3 groups
Wednesday Evening
Thursday Afternoon
Friday Daytime and Evening

You will be made welcome at any of these groups whether you are a regular worshipper at Thomas Risley Church or not.

There will be opportunity for Prayer (an important part of Lent) at each of these groups. Additionally, it is suggested that we use "7" as a time for regular prayer throughout Lent, So that at 7 am and 7pm each day we make some time for prayer, whether it be just a few seconds or a more prolonged period .

Maundy Thursday Communion Service

We will also gather for prayer at a Maundy Thursday Communion Service (9th April) at 7pm. Then, through the night , until the Good Friday service in the morning, the Church will be open for prayer. You can sign up in 1 hour slots to pray at the Church.

"All of this is so that this Lent we can really encounter God and so love life love Him more."

Most of the above is taken from Andrew's (Rev. Willett) article in the February 2009 edition of the Thomas Risley Church Magazine.
