Welcome to my Chaplaincy page

The views on this page are mine alone and not a reflection of Thomas Risley Church or MitE.

As this is my first update I thought that I would give a brief introduction as to how I arrived at this point.

The Christian organisation Mite (Mission in the Economy) approached all the local churches to see if there was anyone who would like to take up the post of voluntary chaplain at Birchwood Business Park in Warrington. I thought about how I could serve and be God's representative in an often stressful, pressurised establishment. I also consulted my husband and applied. After various checks and training I took up the post in January this year alongside the other churches.

We are mainly based in the Engine Rooms, which the cafeteria was re-named after a major refurbishment and it can be used by members of the public as well as staff, but I also visit other reception areas and go on walk abouts around the duck pond, smoking sheds other smaller hubs and walkways. a bit like royalty really!! We are mainly there for all who work on site but of course we are here for members of the public and anyone else who happens to be about! We are here  for all religions or none spreading love, compassion and time which are precious commodities.

I guess my main function is to listen, this is quite a skill as I often interrupt and finish other peoples sentences so it can be hard sometimes! I like chatting to people, their life stories are always intriguing but of course can be very painful and upsetting. Sensitivity is needed. Often people want to off load problems  and use me to explore possibilities so they themselves can arrive at some conclusions. I need to be aware that the answer I would give may not be what they want but a  problem shared is a problem halved........

Well I think this is enough introduction and its time to get on with my chats after I have visited the Park.
