First Time?

We were all first timers once and we know that it can be a bit daunting to come to a new church, especially if its been a while since you came to church or if its your 1st time. We wanted to share a little about what happens on a Sunday morning to hopefully help a little.

So you’re thinking of coming along to Thomas Risley Church? The first things to say are that you would be very welcome and you’ve made an excellent choice ( if we do say so ourselves).

Our main weekly service is on a Sunday morning and starts at 10:40am, if you can’t make dead on 10:40 please come anyway. The sevice is usually finished by 12 and we would love for you to stay afterwards for a coffee ( and a chat if you wish).

Dress Code

There isn’t one! you may find some people in Sunday best but many people will be dressed much more casually and jeans and t-shirt is just as acceptable as suit and tie or posh frock. Just wear what you feel comfortable in.

Disabled access and Facilities

Our building is suitable for wheelchair users and we have disabled toilet facilities. If you have any specific needs, please feel free to Contact Us to discuss

Who will be there?

Every Sunday is different but on a typical Sunday we have around 60 people ranging from a few months old to 80 years ( you’d still be more than welcome if you are outside this range ). We have quite a good number of children and have creche and junior church (Sunday School) facilities for each age group.

Many parents can feel nervous about their children (especially younger ones) being disruptive in chuch. Please don’t worry too much, many of us have children and we love to have children in our church.

Family / Parade Service

On the 3rd Sunday of Each month and during the school summer holidays, we have a Family service where we all worship together as one big family. Though there are usually still creche facilities for younger children. On the 3rd Sunday during term time, the Family service is combined with a Parade service when members of the organisations affiliated with the church ( Rainbows, Brownies & Guides ) join us for worship.

Our music is typically more modern “worship songs” than traditional “hymns” though we do sing both. We have a live band to lead the music on a Sunday morning.

To give an idea of the type of songs we sing, the song below is often in our top 10 lists

If you enjoyed that or want to hear more, go to our Sunday Morning Songs page.
