I spent today in the office where we started off by having a staff briefing and staff devotions and then the instructors had a meeting about our projects with Green Lane School, Woolston High School, St Margaret’s Primary School and Grappenhall Hall. I then set up our new printer, sorted out the Which Way Now certificates for St Bridget’s Primary School and then carried on with some of my work from University
Today I was at Green Lane School where in the morning I started off by marking the maths homework and then helping the class design a book about Egypt. In the afternoon I helped out in PE with the Year 10 class where we learned how to play baseball because the class were learning about America.
I started the day off at St Bridget’s Primary School where we did our first Which Way Now session with the Year 3 class. We started off by having our class assembly and then headed outside where we played the hoop game, sharks in the pool and get knotted. After break we carried on with the get knotted activity and then went on to our adventure line where each pair had to guide a cone round the adventure line. Afterwards we had a go at the crossing the swamp activity and then we finished off with sharks in the pool. In the afternoon we had a meeting about the previous session and the residential next week and then we headed over to the container to prepare for the Dallam after school club. We then took 6 kids from Dallam Primary School to the local park and played some games in the woods.
In the morning we met up with 3 of our trainee instructors from Green Lane School where we showed them what we would do on our Which Way Now projects. In the next weeks they will be helping the instructors lead a Which Way Now session with a Year 5 class from the school. In the afternoon we went to St Margaret’s Primary School where we met the group we would be taking away to Pensarn Harbour Outdoor Centre. We took half the group outside and played crossing the swamp and sharks in the pool and then we talked to them about the residential. After the break we took the other half of the group outside and did the same session with them.
Today I started off in the office where the team had a meeting about some of our upcoming projects which included the trainee instructor programme with Green Lane School and Woolston High School, our residential with Year 6 from St Margaret’s Primary School to Pensarn Harbour and the work we are doing at Grappenhall Hall. In the afternoon we took 5 boys from Warrington Collegiate to the rock climbing centre where we gave them an introductory session in rock climbing where they climbed and we belayed them.
After a great couple of days off, I was at Green Lane School where I started off in Maths helping the Year 8 class and then helped the Year 7 class. After break we had a French lesson where we were looking at the days of the week which was quite interesting seeing as I haven’t spoke any French since I was at school! After lunch I was in PE with a Year 10 class where we were practicing some of the skills that we had learnt from previous weeks.
The final day of Adventure Academy and we started off by picking up the children and taking them to a church where we were going to have breakfast. After breakfast we drove the group to Delamere Forest where we went on an adventure walk before lunch. After lunch we built a den and then played a couple of running games. We finished the day off by taking the children home.
The second day of Adventure Academy and we started off by picking up the children and then we brought them back to Brook Acre Primary School where we had breakfast. After breakfast we took the group to the climbing wall and the staff belayed each child as the climbed different routes. We carried on climbing for a little bit longer after lunch and then took them back to the school where we played a few running around games until the end of the day. We then drove the children back home and then packed away our equipment into the van.
| Today was our first day of Adventure Academy and the team met at Brook Acre Primary School where we unloaded all of the equipment and had a meeting before we picked up the children. I went on one of the minibuses with another member of the team and we picked up 7 out of the 16 children and brought them back to the school where we met up with the rest of the group. We then had breakfast and afterwards we went outside and played a few running around games so that we could get to know the children. We then split the group in half and one half came with myself and one of the other instructors where they took part in archery. We taught them about the equipment, how to load an arrow, how to shoot an arrow and how to collect them. After the lunch we took the other half of the group and did the same session again. We then ended the day with some free time and a few running around games. I then went on one of the minibuses to take the 7 children home.
It was great day and it was great to see the children really enjoy themselves! |
I started the day off at Beamont Primary School where we met up with the 2 Year 3 classes who took part in the Which Way Now project and we had a class assembly with them where we asked them what their favourite activities were and gave them their certificates. Afterwards Jamie and I went round to Oakwood Avenue, St Margaret’s and Dallam Primary Schools to give some of the children a final letter about Adventure Academy next week. In the afternoon we cleaned the minibus and then went to the container to load up some of the equipment for next week.
